The Marketplace City website contains many Web site links and business listings. When you use
Marketplace City's search pages, you are searching within that data set. The content contained in the
marketplace reflects the fact that Marketplace City is based in Colorado. If you want to find other sites or national/global information, you may click on the
select_different_city
button, or you may use the
web_search page, which also contains links to major search engines.
On the Marketplace City
home page, you can search by category or search by keyword. By default, you will be searching all sites and listings in the
marketplace, which consists mostly of Colorado resources. If you are looking for something in another area, click on the
select_different_city button.
You may also select the maximum number of results to be displayed per page. By default, a maximum of ten (10) results will be displayed per page. If more than one page of results is found by your search, there will be a "next_page" button displayed at the bottom of each results page.
When you select a category, the "go!" button will automatically be pressed for you. When you enter a keyword, you will need to click on the the "go!" button to start your search.
If you wish to search within a category for specific keywords, you should type the keyword first, then select the category, and once again the "go!" button will be automatically pressed for you.
The select_different_city page allows you to select a city from a drop-down menu. When you select a city from this menu, the "go!" button will automatically be pressed for you, and all of Marketplace City's indexed sites and listings related to the selected city will be found. There are special buttons for
areas in your state, which will take you to pages for those cities that allow you to define your search further. The select_different_city
page was engineered this way because the majority of sites and listings in Marketplace
City are about Southern Colorado.
The web_search page is powered by Overture and Inktomi®. This page allows you to search the entire World Wide Web, not just the 6,300 resources contained in the Marketplace City database. The web_search page also contains links to other major search engines, including Google, the world's leading search engine.
The
site_map page is designed to help you find other resources contained in Marketplace City, and Internet services offered by CityStar® Group Inc. The category links on the site_map
page enable other search engines to index the contents of the Marketplace.
The search_by_url page allows you to find all of
Marketplace City's links to a particular Web site. This search form searches the URL (uniform resource location) field in
the Marketplace database. This page is most useful to Marketplace advertisers and other Web site owners.
When you use the search_by_url page, type a domain name, i.e. "mycompanyname.com" (without the quotes) into the search field and click on the "go!" button.
In every Marketplace, all resources are assigned a ranking called Page StatusTM, a number from 0 to 10. Higher status resources are displayed above lower status resources. Resources are awarded Page StatusTM for their class (i.e. featured link, simple link, public service link), and within each Page StatusTM, resources are displayed in alphabetical order by business or organization name. Page StatusTM is awarded as follows:
- 9.00 > featured links with an additional graphic
- 8.00 > featured links without an additional graphic
- 7.00 > simple links
- 6.90 > sites hosted by marketplace city
- 6.10 > public service links to CSCVB* member sites
- 6.00 > public service links to BBB** member sites
- 5.90 > other public service links
- 1.11 > free listings (not linked) of BBB** members
- 1.10 > free listings of CSCVB* members
- 1.00 > other free listings, weighted geographically
Additional incremental Page StatusTM
is awarded for linking back to a Marketplace, for purchasing online display ads,
and for purchasing other services. For example, a site that links back to a Marketplace
City is awarded 0.01 in additional Page StatusTM.
Again, within a particular Page StatusTM, the results are displayed in alphabetical order by name.
The exception to the above guidelines is in the New Sites category, where all resources are displayed strictly from newest to oldest.
